How does BangProof BIAT (Impact Absorption Technology) work?

BangProof Impact Absorption Technology (BIAT) utilizes advanced shear-thickening polymers - materials whose viscosity increases under rapid stress. At rest, the foam remains soft and flexible for maximum comfort. During impact, the rapid deformation causes molecular chains to lock together, temporarily creating a rigid structure that dissipates impact energy effectively.

The impact-absorbing foam is also covered with an additional Kevlar and Diolen layer, providing extra protection against cuts from fins, foils, rocks, and reefs.

It’s a revolution in water sports safety — and a new era of helmets.

Are BangProof soft-shell helmets as safe as traditional hard-shell helmets?

Yes — and it’s even safer than most of them.

BangProof was independently tested by Virginia Tech for impact absorption, where it ranked as the #1 soft-shell helmet, outperforming most hard-shell helmets on the market.

Traditional water helmets use a rigid plastic shell with EPS foam inside. They’re stiff, bulky, and typically designed for a single impact — after one serious hit, the foam compresses permanently and should be replaced.

BangProof works differently. It’s flexible at rest, adapts to your head for a close, pressure-free fit, and hardens on impact to deliver real protection.

Compared to some of the most popular hard-shell helmets, it showed:

  • up to 25% better protection on heavy impacts
  • up to 50% better protection on low impacts

And unlike EPS helmets, BangProof maintains its protective properties across multiple impacts — built for real sessions, not just one slam.

Which water sports are BangProof helmets suitable for?

BangProof helmets are CE EN 1385 certified and suitable for surfing,
kiteboarding, kitesurfing, windsurfing, wakeboarding, wakeskating,
stand-up paddleboarding (SUP), kayaking, canoeing, and foiling (wing
foil, kite foil, surf foil). Professional world champion athletes across
all these disciplines trust BangProof.

How does BangProof compare to other helmet hats?

Other helmet hats on the market are not real helmets. They’re bump caps - designed for minor bumps. They don’t provide the level of protection required for water sport helmet.

BangProof is different. It’s the world’s first soft-shell helmet certified to CE EN 1385, the safety standard for water sports helmets.

So while other helmet hats may look similar, BangProof offers certified protection — with the comfort, flexibility, and low-profile look.

Do BangProof helmets protect against sharp objects?

Yes, BangProof features anti-cut protection thanks to a Kevlar/Diolen composite layer placed over the impact-absorbing foam.

It helps protect not just from sharp fins and foils, but also from rocks, reefs, and other sharp edges you might encounter in the water.

Where are BangProof helmets manufactured?

Designed and manufactured in the European Union (Poland). All materials
meet European safety and quality standards including OEKO-TEX
certification. EU manufacturing ensures
quality control and ethical practices.
